The Tommy Oliver Award

The Tommy Oliver Award was begun by the NSSF in 1994 after Tommy's death from cancer and is continued today by the present Sportsmans Team Challenge Assn.

This award not only is in rememberance of Tommy but honors an individual or individuals who exhibit the characteristics that were the foundation of Tommy Oliver's love of Sportsmans Team Challenge.

Tommy Oliver was an affable personality,a great storyteller with an abundant sense of humor. He was an intense competitor within the dictates of absolute sportsmanship. Whatever equipment was available was fine with him and he was always willing to loan whatever he had to make the sport accessible to new shooters. He supported regionals, attending as many as possible. He informed all he came in contact with about the fun, competition and friendship that was Sportsmans Team Challenge. Not one to be "intense" about too much in life, he nevertheless, did all he could to keep STC growing and fun. It is in his spirit of sportsmanship, support, and enjoyment of this national event that the Tommy Oliver Award is given each year to someone who endeavors to do whatever can be done to promote this sport. This is a service award to honor the individuals who shoulder the responsability to give back and to inspire and encourage others to continue the growth of Sportsmans Team Challenge.

The recipient each year is chosen by a committee made of previous recipients of the Tommy Oliver Award. Suggestions and nominations may be given to any one of this group.

They are: Ken Sedlecky(deceased), Mike Martin, Herman Bockstruck(deceased), Peggy and Dale Siler, Larry Nelson, Mike Massey, Kathy Sedlecky, Ron Weaver, Mike Love, Bob Maples, Troy and Michelle Kardokus.
