MEDICAL ALERT

3.22.08 ~ Troy Kardokus has been having some trouble with his heart and here is the latest update form his wife Michele.
Hello to all We finally have a surgery date for Troy. It will be May 2nd at the Cleveland Clinic. We will be leaving a few days before for doctor appointments (cardio, ekg and anesthesia). As soon as scheduling calls I will have a firm date of when we fly out. He will be in the hospital for 5-7 days after the surgery, if all goes well. SO - - he won't be able to shoot this year, but it's six weeks before Nationals. So he may be able to handle traveling. We'll see.....
I'll try to keep you posted.
Michele

Remembering Craig Fletcher
Hello fellow shooters,
I would like to take a moment to bring you up to speed regarding some very dear friends and fellow shooters. In October I am sorry to report that a very dear friend and fellow STC competitor, Bud Bond, passed from us. Bud was a member of the enigmatic HI VIZ team and a staunch supporter of Sportsmans Team Challenge competition. He was one of the toughest revolver competitors in the U.S. and a friend to shooting in general. Loved by all who knew him and an inspiration to us all, he will be sorely missed. An accompanying story of his last day, written by close friend and team mate, Chris Quam, along with photos, follows.
Sincerely,
Ron Weaver
Secondly, another fellow competitor, Larry Weir, recipitant of last years’ WAYNE DESOTO AWARD is experiencing some flare ups of his ongoing battle with leukemia. I would ask that we all include Larry on our prayer lists and help as best we can through this ordeal. Again, a more detailed explanation of Larry’s present situation follows, written by his lovely wife, Phyliss.

I know some of you already know about part of this but I just wanted to let you know about everything concerning Larry. He went to the doctor right before Thanksgiving and his oncologist says it's time to start chemo treatments. Not immediately but he goes back at the end of January and will be evaluated & tested again before he starts. His blood platelets are gradually going down and that's the dr.'s main concern right now.
Also, he went to his regular doctor (intern) yesterday because he has been having a lot of pain in his abdomen. He is set up for a sonogram in the morning. The doctor believes he needs to have his gall bladder removed. He has an appointment Monday afternoon with the surgeon and will more than likely be set up for the surgery (probably some time next week). His doctor thinks it is important to have it out now before he starts chemo. Please just keep him in your thoughts & prayers.
Thank you.
Phyllis

Bud Bond - 5 Dec. 1949 - 28 Oct. 2007

Bud Bond came on to our Pro Staff about 4 years ago and introduced me to revolver shooting. He was a great mentor and friend. Unfortunately he left us much too early on Oct. 28th this year.
He was winner of the 2001, 2002 and 2004 STI/American Handgunner Open Revolver World Shootoff. He spent 3 days or more each week at the local range anywhere from 2 hours to all day shooting close to 1,000 rounds each visit. He enjoyed organizing monthly ICORE revolver matches and the Rocky Mountain Regional ICORE match. In addition to his own shooting he was known for sharing his passion with anyone willing to learn. He especially made time for introducing juniors to the sport and teaching them respect for handgunning. He touched the lives of many.
I introduced Bud to the STC games and he was hooked! We had many fun times practicing shotgun and traveling to several regional matches and Nationals this past year.
The day he passed away we spent shooting a revolver match and he finished up with shotgun five-stand with some of his friends. Bud collapsed just after they finished shooting and was flown out from the range with a ruptured brain aneurysm. We met him at the hospital and one by one said our good-byes. We’re thankful he lived and died where he loved to be and with friends at his side. He will be missed more than I can find words to express.
Christine Quam
